Description

Chilgoza (pine nuts), locally known as neoza or nyoje, is a premium and highly valued dry fruit harvested from the rare Pinus gerardiana trees found in the dry, rugged valleys of Kinnaur. Small in size yet rich in flavor, chilgoza has a dense nutrient profile, including healthy fats, proteins, and antioxidants. It contains essential vitamins B1, B2, and C, along with minerals such as potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and traces of iron, calcium, zinc, and manganese.

The nuts are carefully extracted by hand from fresh pine cones, making the process labor-intensive. Being wild-harvested and free from preservatives, they should be stored in a cool, airtight environment or refrigerated to maintain freshness for longer.

Eat them directly in small quantities for maximum nutrition. Limit consumption to about 8–10 nuts daily as they are high in fat and calorie rich.

Blend with warm milk, or grind into a powder to mix with honey to boost energy.

Sprinkle on oats, porridge, salads, pasta, or include them in desserts like kheer and barfi.
